Ms. SOM Khemra

Executive Director

Ms. SOM Khemra assumed leadership of Youth Star Cambodia on December 25th, 2010, following the retirement of the Founding Director Ms. Eva MYSLIWIEC. Ms. Khemra joined the organization as Head of Program in March 2008 because she is passionate about working with young people and believes in the transformative power of service. She believes that we all need to invest in young people in order to build a better future for Cambodia. Ms. Khemra hopes to empower young people to fulfill their potential to become active citizens and strives to ensure that young people are supported and given opportunities to capitalize on their skills. Ms. Khemra brings over 10 years of valuable leadership and management experience to Youth Star Cambodia. One of the five founding Co-Directors of Cambodia's Women's Media Center in 1995, Ms. Khemra has a wealth of experience in developing and managing programs and staff, as well as expertise in using the media to promote gender equality and to prevent gender based violence. As Head of Programs at Youth Star Cambodia Ms Khemra oversaw the implementation of new initiatives in education, sanitation and prevention of gender based violence and managed the training and support to volunteers. Ms. Khemra has been a volunteer advisor to the HIV/AIDS Coordinating Committee since 2007 and is a board member of the Cambodian Girl Guides Association. Ms. Khemra is honored to have the opportunity to lead Youth Star Cambodia and looks forward to the challenges and successes in the future.

Dr. Sieng Huy

Head of Program

Dr Sieng Huy says that she decided to join Youth Star Cambodia in early 2011 in order to follow her passion, which is to help build Cambodia’s next generation of youth-leaders. Sieng Huy speaks six languages and has had a varied career as a Professor of Chemistry at the Royal University of Phnom Penh (for twenty years) and in various roles within the country’s NGO sector. Most recently, she worked as the Executive Director of Girl Guide Association of Cambodia (GGAC) and as a consultant with the Khmer Institute of Democracy (KID), the National Democratic Institute (NDI), and the Women for Prosperity Organization (WFP), and Women’s Crisis Center (CWCC). A seasoned manager, researcher, writer and advocate, Dr Sieng Huy serves Youth Star as Head of Programs. She holds degrees from Dagestan University in the former Soviet Union (Ph.D. in Chemistry), from the Royal University of Phnom Penh (Bachelor’s degree) and from the ”École Normal Supérieur” in Phnom Penh (to teach secondary school) Sieng Huy is married with two grown up children and enjoys cooking, growing her own vegetables and singing.

Mrs. Sor Lynny

Program Officer

Mrs. Sor Lynny started working with Youth Star Cambodia in January 2011. She feels very impressed with the vision and mission and the program that Youth Star has been implementing. It fits with her passion to see the youth being mobilized and utilized for the communities and the nation. She also wants to be involved in making them become successful in their future career with the experiences they have acquired during their volunteerism in the field. Moreover, she would strive to motivate them to bear this volunteerism mindset through the process of their life. She has worked with women for five years in building the holistic capacity of women to have gender equality both at the community and the social level. With this transition to be working with the youth, really challenge me as this is a new experience that she long to be a part of. Lynny graduated from Vanda Institute of Accounting in the field of Accounting and she is still pursuing MBA at Norton University. Lynny strongly hope her experiences and knowledge would bring input to the development of the youths and Youth Star Cambodia.

Mr. SIN Sokhomony

Program Officer

Mr. Mony decided to join Youth Star Cambodia as Program Officer in October 2010 in order to contribute and share his experiences with Youth Star and especially with youth volunteers to make them become a leader and successful in their future career- the mission of Youth Star addressed that “...everyone can make a difference”. He has worked with NGOs more than 5 years in many fields of Community Development and prior to joining Youth Star, Mr. Mony worked as Community Development Planner with Economic and Social Relaunch of Northwest Provinces in Cambodia (ECOSORN Project), and he also worked with Lutheran World Federation Cambodia as Community Empowerment Facilitator. The area of his experiences focused on gender mainstreaming, capacity building, empowerment ...etc. from grassroots to higher level. He graduated from former Maharishi Vedic University (MVU) in the major of Rural Development and is pursuing a MDM at Norton University.

 

Mr. CHEA Sopheak

Accountant

Mr. CHEA Sopheak is proud to have served one year as a Youth Star volunteer in Kampong Cham province in 2006. He credits his “can do” attitude to his volunteer experience which has changed him in many ways. “When I started my service, I thought that I can’t do this at all, but everything changed from day to day”. He feels a great sense of accomplishment at having helped school dropouts getting back to school and vulnerable students to become fully literate in Math and Khmer. Mr. Sopheak enjoys working at Youth Star Cambodia because it provides him with opportunities to both continue working with young people and to stay involved in rural development. He believes Youth Star is the best place for him and that he can still learn a lot from Youth Star. Mr. Sopheak is a graduate of accounting from the National University of Management.

 

Mrs. SOR Sothearom

Admin & HR Assistant

Mrs. Sothearom was keen to gain experience in the NGO sector and thought that Youth Star is the best place for her to learn more. She was very impressed with Youth Star’s mission and vision to develop Cambodia’s youth through voluntary service. Prior to Youth Star Mrs. Sothearom worked with several private and public sector organizations, including DAN MEAT Shop, Northbridge International School of Cambodia, and International School of Phnom Penh. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Norton University.
